General QuestionsWhat should I do if my Husky Card is lost or stolen? If your University of Washington ID card (Husky Card) is lost or stolen and you have money in your Husky Card Account, immediately go online to the Husky Card Account website to report your card lost/stolen and suspend activity on your account (http://huskycard.hfs.washington.edu); or, call the Husky Card Office (Husky Card Account & ID Center) at 206-543-7222 to report it as lost or stolen.
For more information, see Lost/Stolen Cards.
How do I get a replacement Husky Card? If you work or attend classes at the Seattle campus, you can go to the Husky Card Account & ID Center, located on the ground floor of Odegaard Undergraduate Library. Employees working at University of Washington (UW) Bothell and UW Tacoma will be able to obtain ID cards at their respective campuses. UW Medical Center and Harborview will serve as satellite UW ID card operations. For locations and hours, please visit here.
Husky Card Account & ID Center Location: Odegaard Undergraduate Library, Ground Floor Phone: 206-543-7222 Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
ID QuestionsWhat do I need to bring with me to get a replacement Husky Card? To replace your Husky Card, bring your student or employee ID number and some form of state or federally-issued photo identification, such as a driver's license, passport, etc. We will be taking your picture for the card here.
Is there a cost to replace a lost or stolen Husky Card? A nonrefundable fee of $10.00 is charged for replacement Husky Cards. For students, if you would like to replace the U-PASS sticker, there will be an additional $20.00 replacement fee.
What if I change my name? If you are a student, you must first change your name through the Registrar's Office. If you are a staff member, you will need to change your name with the Benefits Office. If you are both a student and an employee, you must make the change in both areas. Once you have changed your name with the other offices, please allow twenty-four (24) hours before you come get a new Husky Card. Replacements due to a name change are issued at no cost as long as you bring your old Husky Card with you.
Husky Card AccountWhat is the Husky Card Account? The Husky Card Account is a declining balance account that debits charges at on- and off-campus merchants against deposits made by the account holder. There is no minimum balance. The account can be used for dining, parking, copying and a variety of other purchases on and off campus. For a complete list of areas that accept the Husky Card Account, please see Places to Use Your Card.
How can I open a Husky Card Account? All UW students, faculty and staff have a Husky Card. To activate your account, simply make a deposit at a payment location using cash or check, or through the Husky Card Account Online Card Office using Visa or MasterCard.
How do I close my Husky Card Account? Can I get a refund? Husky Card balances may be refunded upon written request. The request must include your name and account number (student or employee ID number), along with a current mailing address. You can stop by the Husky Card Account & ID Center, located on the ground floor of Odegaard Undergraduate Library, and complete a refund form, or send us an email from your UW email account. We can be reached at huskycrd@u.washington.edu. All refunds are processed by check or refunded to the credit card used. Accounts less than $5.00 may be charged a service fee, up to the total amount of the existing balance. Please note: we do not permit cash refunds or withdrawals.
How do I check the balance on my Husky Card Account? To check your real-time balance, visit the Husky Card Account Online Card Office, call the Husky Card Office at 206-543-7222, or go to any of the payment locations on campus, including the Husky Card Account Deposit Station located on the ground floor of the HUB. You can set up your MyUW webpage to post your account balance. Please note that the balance indicated on MyUW is obtained through a download process once a day, so the balance shown will not reflect purchases made since the last download.
Smart Card ProjectIf I get a new Husky Card with my photo on it, do I need to come back again or am I good to go for the U-PASS when the smart card is implemented? You will need to get a new Husky Card once we implement the smart card (chip embedded in the card) as we will be issuing new cards to all students, faculty and staff. The advantage of getting a new photo ID now is that we will have your photo on file. When we move to the smart card, we can produce it without you having to come in again.
Do I need to come in and get a new photo ID card? You are not required to come in and get a new ID card (Husky Card) at this point in time. All non-photo ID cards are still valid. Once we begin the transition to the new smart card, we will notify the campus community to come in and get a new ID card with the smart chip. We encourage all staff without photo ID to come in their first photo ID card free of charge. Getting your photo on file at this time will ease the transition to the smart card when it is implemented. You are not yet required to come in and get a new ID card until the new ID card implementation. If you elect to come in and get a new ID card we will ask you to surrender your old card. If you have a U-PASS sticker on your card, you will also need to go to Commuter Services (3901 University Way NE) and they will place a new U-PASS sticker on your photo ID card.
When are the smart cards going to happen and when do I need to get my new ID? The schedule will be determined by the transit agencies and the date they go live with the smart card. Current expected schedule for new ID smart cards is summer–fall 2009. There will be announcements with information coming out as we get closer to implementation. In the meantime, keep checking here on our website for updates.
My validation sticker has expired. Do I need to get a new Husky Card? No. The employee validation stickers are no longer being produced. The expired sticker does not make your Husky Card invalid. The card can continue to be used.
I am concerned that when I travel, I will not be able to get my hotel discount with an expired validation sticker. What can I do? If you are frequently asked to show your ID for discounted rates, we suggest that you have your department administrator or Payroll Coordinator complete an employment verification memo on UW letterhead. The other option you have is to come in and get a new Husky Card. The new Husky Cards do not have any reference to an expiration date.
I am a UW employee or affiliate and work out of state or at a remote location. Can I still get my Husky Card? All Husky Cards will now be issued with a photo, so you must come in person to obtain your card. You may elect to request an Out of Area card which does not require a photo. However, these cards may not be used where services require the cardholder to swipe the card through a card reader. Requests for Out of Area cards must come from your department administrator or Payroll Coordinator.
I have seen a great deal in the news lately about security and privacy issues with smart cards and I am concerned about the security of my personal information. How will this be addressed? There will be no personal information stored on the smart chip. The chip will simply be a number in the transit system that either has the U-PASS activated or not. The UW will send files to the transit agency database which identifies which smart cards are active cards. These files will have the serial number of the active smart chip cards but will contain no names or numbers that identify particular individuals. Commuter Services will be the office that maintains the information on which cardholders have valid U-PASSs. This information will be kept in accordance with the UW privacy policy (UW Electronic Information Privacy Policy on Personally Identifiable Information, http://www.washington.edu/computing/rules/privacypolicy.html).
The information about the ORCA smart card mentions seven transit agencies, including the ferries. Does that mean the U-PASS will include the ferries? The smart chip in the Husky Card will be used by the UW to provide U-PASS unlimited access to bus service. The six transit agencies party to the ORCA project are King County Metro, Community Transit, Sound Transit, Pierce Transit, Kitsap Transit and Everett Transit. The UW would like to include all six (6) agencies in the U-PASS product, but this will be determined through future negotiations. Ferries will not be part of the standard U-PASS product.
