Residence Halls 2011–12: Application Information
New Students
Thank you for your interest in living in the UW residence halls.
Living in the residence halls is a great way to stay connected with campus. Not only are the residence halls close to classes, labs, libraries and other academic resources, they are also just a few minutes away from performance art halls, art and natural history museums, award-winning restaurants, numerous and varied shopping options, easy access to public transportation, Husky sports venues, the Burke-Gilman Trail...the list goes on. For more information about the benefits of living on campus, visit Why Live in the Halls?
We are currently accepting applications for winter quarter and spring quarter. However, limited space is available for winter quarter, and a waiting list may be established for the beginning of the quarter.
If you prefer to secure housing now, please consider submitting a Single Student Apartment application for Cedar Apartments, Nordheim Court or Radford Court.
Before accessing the online housing application, please take a few minutes to review the application tips below and visit the links on the right side of this page for information regarding rates, assignment priorities, agreements and other details that might be helpful as you make your plans to live in the residence halls.
Get Your UW NetID
Before you can apply to live in the UW residence halls, you will need to set up your UW NetID, which will allow you access to the online housing application. It may take several days for your UW NetID information to be transferred to our database. You should have received information about how to set up your UW NetID with your UW Offer of Admission. Please contact the UW Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 206-543-9686 if you need more information about setting up your UW NetID.
Requesting a Specific Roommate
You may request a specific roommate on your application. Your request will be accommodated if:
- Both residents are of the same gender;
- Both applications have concurring information;
- Both applications are submitted at approximately the same time; and,
- Space is available.
Please Note
You will be asked to enter your requested roommate’s UW student number on the application in order to make your request. Entering any other information will cause the application system to reject your request. Please be sure that you and your requested roommate know one another’s UW student numbers before beginning the application. Our ability to assign roommates together is limited by room availability.
Your Theme Community request will supersede your roommate request unless your roommate also requests the same Theme Community and is eligible for it.
If you do not specify a roommate, you will be assigned one by the Student Services Office. Your responses to the smoking and lifestyle questions on the application will be taken into consideration when your roommate is assigned.
HFS assigns students based on the gender marker as it appears in the UW Student Database and cannot assign opposite sexes to the same room or apartment.
HFS makes all assignments without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation or national origin, and rejects all requests for changes of assignment based on these factors.
Assignment Notification and HFS Communications
We will begin emailing winter quarter room assignment and check-in information in early December, and will continue weekly until all students are assigned. HFS will send most correspondence to applicants and residents via their UW email accounts. Please check your UW email account regularly. You are responsible for receiving and reviewing any information sent by HFS to your UW email account.
Please note that if you forward your UW email to a different account, it may be filtered, refused or treated as spam. To ensure delivery of emails from HFS to your inbox, please add hfsinfo@hfs.washington.edu and wrproc@hfs.washington.edu to your list of approved senders.
