The UW Dining team is a dedicated group of culinary professionals committed to creating a quality, consistent customer-driven experience. We serve a diverse population including faculty, staff and students in several different venues across campus. Summer is our busy recruitment season, in eager anticipation of our venues opening throughout late-summer for the start of the academic year.

Campus Restaurants & Dining Cafés

We are focused on providing restaurant-style dining in a university setting, advancing our commitment to use local, sustainable products wherever economically possible and providing outstanding customer service in support of the UW’s mission.

Dish Room Attendant

  • Prepare menu/recipe ingredients as established by Cooks, Kitchen Leads, Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef
  • Receive customer orders, answering questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing

Prep Cook/Barista, Orin's Place

  • Prepare menu ingredients to specifications established by Cooks, Kitchen Leads, Sous Chefs and/or the Executive Chef

Line Cook, The 8's Broiler Zone

  • Provide leadership in a high-volume UW dining facility that offers a wide variety of cuisines and serves a large number of repeat customers

Line Cook Roundsman

  • Provide culinary support in high-volume UW dining facilities that offer a wide variety of cuisines and serve a large number of repeat customers
  • Work a flexible, full-time schedule throughout various dining locations on campus. The schedule and locations will be determined based on operational needs and will be communicated to the Roundsman giving as much advance notice as possible
  • Cross-train to support overall operations throughout residential dining, retail and catering locations across campus
  • Work as part of a diverse team in an energetic, fast-paced, high-volume environment

Lead Line Cook

  • Prepare a variety of cuisines and other menu items in venue where facets of the work are visible and may include interaction with guests
  • Lead and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Participate in the planning, preparation, assembly and service of a variety of cuisines from scratch ingredients
  • Use your drive, organizational skills and communication skills to lead the team in the creation of consistently excellent product

Kitchen Lead

  • Oversee and actively participate in all aspects of preparation of a variety of cuisines in a high-volume restaurant that offers daily meal service of a changing menu and serves a large number of repeat customers
  • Lead and motivate a diverse team of Prep Cooks, Line Cooks and Lead Line Cooks who work in multiple stations in an energetic, fast-paced environment
  • Ensure the successful and timely execution of the menu and culinary direction provided by management

Espresso Bars/Cafés & Campus Markets

Passionate about our service and committed to sustainability, we source locally about 50% of our products including locally-madeDrinking coffee pastries, sushi and sandwiches. Our espresso bars, cafés and express markets strive to provide a quality coffee experience in a high-profile and dynamic environment serving students, staff and faculty in over 20 venues across campus. Our express markets specialize in the sale of fresh grab-and-go food items, groceries, home and personal care supplies, and espresso. The District Market, our new campus grocery store, also offers fresh produce, a deli and a wider selection of grocery items.

Barista/Counter Staff, The Rotunda

  • Prepare and serve espresso for customers
  • Train hourly and student staff on equipment, preparation and service
  • Operate point-of-sale systems, key in sales, take payments, make change and account for receipts at the end of the work shift
  • Receive and stock merchandise
  • Participate in unit organization and cleanliness

Espresso Bar Lead

  • Direct the operation of a café or campus market (Café Leads work in locations with an off-site supervisor)
  • Assign, instruct and check the work of student, hourly and/or classified staff
  • Lead staff and participate in the assembly and service of menu items to order
  • Participate in both the food preparation and espresso operations including opening and/or closing service functions

 Shift Lead

  • Lead a team of students and staff to provide a high-quality product prepared to Pagliacci’s exacting specifications
  • Produce hand-tossed dough

Station Worker

 Supervisor

  • Supervise the work completed by direct reports, ensuring appropriate productivity, quality, customer service and adherence to UW, HFS and franchise policies and procedures
  • Train staff on unit layout, call-in procedures, safety features, performance expectations and all other applicable UW, HFS and franchise policies and procedures
  • Evaluate the work completed by direct reports and provide constructive feedback to support success
  • Schedule employees to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained to meet customer service standards
  • Monitor daily use of food products, labor needs, and supplies to ensure that resources allocation matches anticipated customer volume

Starbucks

Two of Seattle’s best employers have come together! Starbucks and UW Dining are partnering to open a store in the UW’s Husky Union Building. Starbucks prides itself on providing each customer with such a welcoming experience that they want customers to think of their stores as the third place, where customers choose to spend time in their busy days. That means the beverages are top notch, the surroundings are clean and welcoming, and the service is prompt and exceeds what customers expect, every single time.

Operating one of the busiest SUBWAY restaurants on the West Coast, UW Dining is happy to partner with SUBWAY to provide a made-to-order sandwich recognized around the world. Offering freshly-baked bread, our sandwich artists will completely customize your sandwich experience.

Sandwich Artist

  • Assemble and serve sandwiches and related menu items to customer order and take payments for orders in the SUBWAY franchise on the UW campus

UW Street Food (Food Trucks)

UW Street Food is a collection of UW food trucks created to bring the authentic, affordable and tasty street food experience to campus. We offer items from around the globe including hot dogs, savory barbecue with classic sides, and island-style lunches.

Catering (Service and Production)

Focused on quality and driven to meet customers' needs, Bay Laurel Catering creates events providing custom-designed menus, outstanding service and door-to-door delivery. Bay Laurel Catering produces a line of gourmet sandwiches and salads available all over campus.

Banquet Captain

  • Act as a key service representative for Bay Laurel Catering, coordinating with culinary staff and service managers
  • Lead and actively participate in the setup, presentation and service of catered events on the UW campus

Lead Line Cook

Dining Program Support

Administrative Coordinator

  • Act as point of contact to provide general support to students, employees, customers, vendors, internal and external University departments and other outside agencies.  This includes responding to general inquiries and serving as a resource to explain HFS programs, policies, services, rules and regulations.
  • Provide administrative support to the Food Services Assistant Director, including receiving calls, facilitating communication and scheduling meetings.
  • Direct and/or support activities in relation to Housing & Food Services’ established goals and objectives including researching, collecting and preparing information and reports.

Program Assistant, UW Dining

  • Act as point of contact for general support and customer service to employees, internal and external customers, vendors, etc.
  • Document, implement, interpret and communicate procedures, schedules, and program-specific policies to employees, customers and guests to meet the business needs of the leadership team
  • Support student employment processes by assisting with hiring, orientation, training, and scheduling functions
  • Use various systems including inventory and menu management systems (CBORD), point of sale systems, document management systems (SharePoint), and timekeeping system (KRONOS) to track and edit information and to develop and prepare reports for the leadership team
  • Perform and support purchasing and inventory processes
  • Work as part of a diverse team in an energetic, fast-paced environment
