Awards and Recognition


2016

  • For the sixth consecutive year, the UW made The Princeton Review's Green College Honor Roll in part from efforts to serve organic, local and fair-trade food on campus.
  • CollegeRank.net named the UW as one of "The 50 Best College Dining Experiences."

2015

  • The UW ranked at #10 on Sierra Magazine’s 2015 Cool Schools and at #6 in the food category. The ranking takes into account efforts in student collaboration, education, waste reduction and innovation.
  • For the third year in a row, UW was named one of the Best Colleges for Food in America by The Daily Meal.
  • The restaurant-reviewing organization Zagat cited Cultivate's "eager-to-please" staffers and "clever menu" in a February write-up.

2014

  • For the second year in a row, UW was named one of the Best Colleges for Food in America by The Daily Meal
  • District Market won Food Management magazine's award for Best Convenience Retailing Concept.
  • Local Point was named a Facility Design Project of the Month by Foodservice Equipment & Supplies magazine.
  • Cultivate was recognized as the Spotlight of the Month by the Kristen Harrell Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary at the UW. The Honorary recognizes groups, individuals and programs for their outstanding contributions to the community.

2013

  • The National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) presented District Market with a C-Store Award for New Store Design Innovation. Recognizing leadership in product mix, marketing, layout, design and great new ideas, the C-Store Best in the Business competition provides an opportunity for college and university campuses to share stories of their latest improvements and highlight their retail and convenience store best practices.
  • UW was named one of the 60 Best Colleges for Food in America by The Daily Meal.

2012

  • In April 2012, HFS won 1st place (gold) in the Sustainability Awards category of Waste Management in a national competition sponsored by the National Association of College and University Food Services.
  • Storm Hodge, Assistant Director for UW Dining, was awarded the Husky Green Award for his leadership in guiding UW Dining's efforts to be a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship.
  • In February 2012, HFS was awarded the Silver Prize in the Goldies Awards Going Green category. The competition was sponsored by FoodService Director magazine.

2011

  • The UW placed silver in the Loyal E Horton Awards for Retail Sales—Multiple Concepts/Marketplace. Announced by the National Association of College and University Food Services, the award celebrates exemplary menus, presentations, special event planning, and new dining concepts, and provides an avenue for sharing ideas and creative presentations in campus dining services.

2010

  • Michael Meyering, Business and Sustainability Manager for UW Dining, was awarded the Husky Green Award for his leadership in guiding UW Dining's efforts to be a leader in sustainability and environmental stewardship.

2009

  • Named one of the 12 Most Healthy and Sustainable College Cafeterias by The Daily Green.

2008

  • HFS was recognized as Recycler of the Year by the Washington State Recycling Association for overcoming significant barriers to expand residence hall recycling and composting in our dining locations.

2006

  • The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Washington Council presented the UW with a Civic Honor Award for the Conibear Shellhouse renovation and addition. The award honors contributions to great public design.
