International Student Housing Resources

Welcome to the UW. No matter where you're coming from, we hope you'll feel at home with us. We offer so much more than a place to live; campus living gives you the opportunity to thrive. Our Residential Life staff offer many programs that are designed to bring students together, encourage community involvement, and promote academic success.

9-Month Residence Halls

Agreement Duration: September 24, 2015–June 11, 2016

The Residence Hall community is a great option for undergraduate students who will be studying at the UW for one academic year or less. In a typical year we expect to have autumn quarter housing for new undergraduate students who apply for residence hall housing by May 15. Residence hall assignments for the upcoming quarter are made during the previous quarter. Autumn quarter assignment notifications are sent beginning in early August, and for other quarters, about a month before the quarter begins.

Most of the residence halls are closed during winter break (from 12 noon on December 19 to 8 am on January 3) however, you have the option to request when you apply to be assigned to an area that is open for winter break (Lander Hall, Mercer Court, Stevens Court). We do our very best to assign internationa students who request winter break housing to one of the winter break halls.

12-Month Apartments

Agreement Duration: September 13, 2015–August 20, 2016

Graduate program students and undergraduates who are on long-term programs and plan to be in Seattle year-round may want to explore our Apartments opportunities. Students may apply up to two quarters before their study begins and should apply as early as possible. We typically have space available for all applicants, either in our campus apartments (Stevens Court, Cedar Apartments) or in one of our privately-managed communities (Commodore Duchess Apartments, Nordheim Court, Radford Court).

Students who apply for 12-month apartments have the opportunity to select their own apartment from available units, typically one week after the application is submitted.

Family Housing

Agreement Duration: Month-to-Month

If you will be bringing your family (spouse, registered same-sex domestic partner and/or children) with you, please consider Family Housing. Students may apply up to two quarters before their study begins and should apply as early as possible. We typically have space available for all applicants, either in our campus apartments (Stevens Court, Laurel Village, Blakeley Village) or in one of our privately-managed communities (Commodore Duchess Apartments, Radford Court). Family Housing offers are made on an ongoing basis as units become available.

Please spend some time on our Student Housing pages for more information about the different housing options.

A Note to Nonmatriculated Students

Radford Court and Nordheim Court are typically the only HFS housing communities available to nonmatriculated students during autumn quarter. Residence hall space is generally available for winter, spring and summer quarters.
