There’s a new way to clean, and it’s kinder to the environment. Just check out the tips below to help make it easier for you to clean green.

Custodial Closet and Cleaning Products

Indoor Environment Quality IconSince you are responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of your room and/or apartment, you are the key to keeping the new buildings in the green. To make that doable, we are providing green cleaning supplies in unlocked closets on every floor in throughout our residential communities.

  • Sustainable Earth 64—an all-purpose, Green Seal-certified, pH-neutral (noncorrosive) cleaner
  • Additional cleaning supplies including brooms, dustpans, mops, rags and vacuums

Use the supplies; then simply return them to the closet.

Cleaning Procedures

  • Store all supplies in a safe area
  • Avoid using powdered cleaners that will scratch sinks, showers and toilets
  • Use the right product for the job; don’t use abrasive products on finishing or wood
  • Always read the labels and follow directions
  • Never mix chemicals; they can be toxic when combined (even on a sponge)
Carpets
  • Vacuum as needed (at least weekly)
Linoleum Floors
  • Sweep and then mop with water and a pH-neutral (noncorrosive) cleaner
  • Lightly spray disinfectant on surfaces as needed
Concrete (Retro Plate) Floors
  • Sweep and then mop with a pH-neutral (noncorrosive) cleaner
  • Clean up spills promptly (especially anything corrosive)
Kitchen
  • Electric stove surfaces, stovetop burners, chrome rings and storage drawers should be free of grease, stains and dirt
  • Follow the instructions for the self-cleaning oven

  • After each use of the cooktop, use cleaning cream to keep the cooktop looking new. Each apartment receives a sample of CERAMA BRYTE Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner (available through GE Parts, part number WX10X300)

Units are inspected quarterly to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of your living quarters.

Apartment Inspections

Apartment Inspections are conducted during the autumn, winter and spring quarters, as well as on a need-be basis, to ensure that residents are properly cleaning and maintaining their apartments. Inspections provide an opportunity to address any facility-related issues in a prompt and timely manner. As stated in your agreement, residents agree to keep their room and apartment clean, orderly and in good condition at all times.

Bathroom Inspections

Bathroom Inspections are conducted during the autumn, winter and spring quarters, as well as on a need-be basis, to ensure that residents are properly cleaning and maintaining their rooms. Inspections provide an opportunity to address any facility-related issues in a prompt and timely manner. As stated in your agreement, residents agree to keep their room orderly and in good condition at all times.
